I have a theory I want to hit you guys with...  Oh and I think the Final Cylon will be female.

So I was thinking about stuff and things on the way to work this morning when I had this idea.  There are 12 Cylon Models.  There Are 12 Olympian Gods.  I think that the Cylons human models were the original Lords of Kobol.  I think that the robots who left the Colonies went in search of the "Human models" for inspiration or some such and, having found them, were granted eternal life (in the form of Resurrection).  I think that the Human forms evolved and began to realize that if things ever get too easy, beings stagnate.  They pitted the cylons against humans for that very reason and began with a culling of humans (the destruction of the colonies), forcing both Cylons and Humans to evolve whether they want to or not.  I think they've done this many times in one form or another.

I also think that those Lords of Kobol began to look at themselves and realize the same stagnation was happening to them, though not all agreed.  So they, one by one, began to lose their positions to force themselves to evolve but they couldn't completely pitch their natures.  Zeus/Tigh subordinated himself to another person and tried to remain true to one woman.  Hephaestus/Tyrol merely maintains things instead of creating wonders.  Ares/Anders no longer fights wars, but couldn't abandon competition and, when left on Caprica, couldn't help fighting, but took on a defensive posture instead of an aggressive one.  I'm not sure about Tori.  She might be Hestia who has given up both her vow of virginity and her home and hearth a number of times or she might be Demeter if there's a child in her background that we don't know about.  Either one would be a reason for her to cry when she's with a man.

Not all the Lords agreed.  Hermes/Leoben, Artemis/D'Anna, Aphrodite/Caprica 6, Cavil, Simon and Doral (haven't figured out exactly who they are, but I think they're Hades, Apollo and Poseidon) stayed the same but Athena/Boomer Decided that there's wisdom in trying both sides so she sent one of her self away.  They all agreed not to discuss how every generation of the cycle one of them goes off the reservation.  Now too many are getting out and it's turning into some sort of Ragnarok and D'Anna (the huntress, hell, they even named her Diana) couldn't help but hunt out the mystery about the ones who had left.  They're having trouble coping and are being forced into the evolution they forced on others so some of them are going to the Cylons and the humans more directly looking for ways to survive their new twilight of the gods.

And that's my new but ill-formed, one hour old theory on what's going on.

Discuss.

wow.  that...um...actually makes a lot of sense.

my money is on the final one being female too. the male options are all too obvious.

but wow.  if they had played that up a little more, i might have enjoyed the series more.

i do have to say that your intro to the idea has more than a little B5 in it (no shocks there).  i like your ideas...newsletter?

Hadn't considered a Shadow connection... by atreides (4.00 / 1) #3 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 11:31:37 AM EST
But I think that gods using lesser beings for their own purposes is a universal enough theme to sidestep that.  That and the human models seem to function in both Shadow and Vorlon modes.

That having said, I revise my theory.  BSG was totally stolen from JMS.

the final cylon by cam (4.00 / 2) #31 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 07:13:07 PM EST
I came up with something similar by Vulch (4.00 / 1) #2 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 11:26:21 AM EST

...A while ago. Originally all 12 Lords of Kobol were living incognito on the 12 colonies, moving to a new host as the old one aged and died. The original Cylons found out about this, and the first Human-Cylon war was actually to try and capture the 12. Seven were taken and gave the skin-job Cylons their resurrection abilities, which they managed to pass on to the Raiders and Centurions as well, the second war was to capture or eliminate the remaining five.

As a side theory, I contemplated the existence of a thirteenth "Cylon" turning up when they found Earth.

that cylons were made by man.

But you forget... by atreides (4.00 / 1) #17 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 03:45:37 PM EST
Remember, when the President and Adama found out that some Cylons looked like humans, they kept is a secret until they were forced to tell the rest of the fleet from fear of infiltration.  That infers that Cylons didn't look like people before or it wasn't common knowledge that they did.  Maybe the prototypes may have, but if there were human looking ones, they were not common enough for the general public to have known about them...  I don't have episode links right now, but I can provide them when I get home.

Honestly, by muchagecko (2.00 / 0) #18 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 03:56:37 PM EST
I hope they come up with a way to knit the two series together without f@#$! the storyline up.

I think they will... by atreides (4.00 / 1) #20 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 03:58:47 PM EST
...though even JMS made some canon screwups in later B5 stuff, though, technically, anything he says IS canon, but when it conflicts with what has gone before...

Sure, the toasters were... by atreides (2.00 / 0) #8 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 02:25:46 PM EST
...but they evolved and created the human form ones which, for all we know, could be tech reverse engineered by the Cylons or just given them by the Lords of Kobol.

No. by muchagecko (2.00 / 0) #9 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 02:44:33 PM EST
Read the story in the link. Cylons were made by man. The first cylon was the replica of Daniel Graystone's daughter.

that makes no sense by StackyMcRacky (2.00 / 0) #12 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 02:59:30 PM EST
since one of the biggest things in BSG has been "the Cylons look like us now" meaning they were all toasters before.

what about Tigh's "we didn't know about the skin jobs" speech??

it kind of ruins the premise for the current series.

Understood. by muchagecko (2.00 / 0) #14 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 03:10:55 PM EST
I was pretty pissed when I heard about the prequel premise. I only hope they work the 2 series together  into a neat little package.

i like it!  i don't think it's correct, but i like your theory quite a bit.

how does "this has all happened before, and it will all happen again" fit into things?

They've done this before... by atreides (2.00 / 0) #19 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 03:57:22 PM EST
They've culled humanity, caused diaspora, new race settles and rebuilds, repeat.  Heck, Earth may actually have been one of the worlds that was originally diaspora-ed to and then was wiped out by war and THEN fled to Kobol and the history got scrambled so when the tribes left Kobol, thirteenth headed back to the cradle or something like that though I can't help but think that Earth would have a greater import than just that but you never know...

your theory is way too cool for that show.

i mean, hell, the whole "final 5" thing was just a punt.

A chink in my armor! by atreides (2.00 / 0) #24 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 05:51:18 PM EST
That is, unfortunately, an argument I cannot refute.  I must admit I myself stopped watching at the beginning of last season and had to use the torrents to catch up when it started getting good.  And now that I have a wife and a social life, I'm rarely home on Friday nights to watch it.

That is so tempting... by atreides (2.00 / 0) #22 Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 05:27:47 PM EST
...but predicated on the fact that it depends on having Adama as Captain?  i can't buy it.  Though, I wanted Gaeta to be the last Cylon so BAD!  It's going to be someone female and, since I think she will be the opposite of Hera, someone very forgiving, caring and possibly (or not) weak willed.  Cally would be a good candidate, but she didn't hear the music.  It'll probably be someone who was traveling with the fleet but is no longer with them.  Maybe Roslin's spiritual advisor...  I don't know.  But it could be the ship.  I won't rule it out.

...though I always got the impression that Hera liked the cock but Zeus liked spreading it around.  I'm also assuming that since D'Anna claims there's only four of five in the fleet, it's someone who's already gone.  Or maybe she was lying to Roslin because she would have been my first choice.
