I also think that those Lords of Kobol began to look at themselves and realize the same stagnation was happening to them, though not all agreed. So they, one by one, began to lose their positions to force themselves to evolve but they couldn't completely pitch their natures. Zeus/Tigh subordinated himself to another person and tried to remain true to one woman. Hephaestus/Tyrol merely maintains things instead of creating wonders. Ares/Anders no longer fights wars, but couldn't abandon competition and, when left on Caprica, couldn't help fighting, but took on a defensive posture instead of an aggressive one. I'm not sure about Tori. She might be Hestia who has given up both her vow of virginity and her home and hearth a number of times or she might be Demeter if there's a child in her background that we don't know about. Either one would be a reason for her to cry when she's with a man.
Not all the Lords agreed. Hermes/Leoben, Artemis/D'Anna, Aphrodite/Caprica 6, Cavil, Simon and Doral (haven't figured out exactly who they are, but I think they're Hades, Apollo and Poseidon) stayed the same but Athena/Boomer Decided that there's wisdom in trying both sides so she sent one of her self away. They all agreed not to discuss how every generation of the cycle one of them goes off the reservation. Now too many are getting out and it's turning into some sort of Ragnarok and D'Anna (the huntress, hell, they even named her Diana) couldn't help but hunt out the mystery about the ones who had left. They're having trouble coping and are being forced into the evolution they forced on others so some of them are going to the Cylons and the humans more directly looking for ways to survive their new twilight of the gods.
And that's my new but ill-formed, one hour old theory on what's going on.
Discuss.
